Renowned German artist, robotic musician, and futurist Moritz Simon Geist returns in 2025 with his third full-length album, Don't Look At Me — an ambitious, algorithmically composed ambient record played entirely by robots. Co-composed and produced with Andi Toma (Mouse on Mars), the album offers a haunting sonic meditation on the attention economy in the digital age.
Built in 2023 during a research residency in South Korea, the central robotic instrument of the album is a 3x3 meter sound organism developed by Geist and his team. Controlled by a custom algorithm, the machine responded in real-time to the audience’s attention: the more it was watched, the more dissonant and restless its sounds became. In isolation, it created serene and balanced compositions. This behavioral inversion of mainstream social media algorithms lies at the conceptual core of Don't Look At Me.
Recorded between 2024 and 2025 in Dresden and Berlin, the album pushes the boundary between mechanical music and digital critique. Where Geist’s 2018 debut—Robotic Electronic Music—established him as the pioneer of robot techno, Don't Look At Me marks an evolution into deeper, more introspective terrain. The compositions shift away from dancefloor rigidity into ambient abstraction, with a subtle yet pointed reflection on technology, automation, and society’s escalating demand for attention.
The project is a collaborative effort involving a multidisciplinary team: from programmers and mechanical engineers to designers and composers. The cover artwork by acclaimed visual artist Jess Johnson (Sharna Pax, Get the Poa) amplifies the album’s dystopian–utopian narrative in vibrant, digital psychedelia.
Following the success of his prior works—recognized with the VIA/VUT Award, Pop Music Prize of Saxony, and international showcases including ZER01NE (South Korea)—Geist’s new album aims to further cement his presence in the global electronic avant-garde.
