No Fan Of Guitars (2026)
Kinetic sound installation. Three electric guitars, three oscillating fans, amplifiers, steel rigging.
Three electric guitars hang suspended from thin steel cables, each facing an oscillating household fan. As the fans turn, the moving air sets the strings in motion, drawing out a slow, shifting drone that no hand ever touches. The guitars play themselves, endlessly and never quite the same way twice, as the fans sweep across them in overlapping cycles.
The work has no performer and no composition. What remains is the instrument, the airflow, and randomness. The rock guitar, a symbol of virtuosity and human expression, is handed over to a machine as mundane as a fan, and answers with something closer to ambient drone than to any riff. The result sits between composition and accident: the tuning, the string gauge and the rhythm of the fans are set by the artist, but the music itself emerges on its own.
No Fan Of Guitars was shown at Extraschicht, the Night of Industrial Culture, in the Kraftzentrale Duisburg in 2026.
